Eagle Claw, Wright & McGill Release Skeet Reese Victory Pro Carbon Rods

    June 6, 2014 | Product News | Views: 1535

DENVER, COLORADO – Working closely with B.A.S.S. Elite Series Pro Skeet Reese, the Wright & McGill Co. is extremely excited to announce the introduction of an entirely new performance rod series called the Victory Pro Carbon series.

Anyone who has ever met Skeet Reese knows that he is dead serious about Bass fishing and about the gear he uses to compete at the highest levels. Second place is not an option and the gear he uses must simply be the best in every way! The new Skeet Reese Victory Pro Carbon rods were developed with that requirement in mind and the results speak for themselves. These are simply the lightest, strongest and most precise fishing tools available on the planet today.

There are 10 new rods in this series and each one is designed from front to back for one of Skeet’s favorite techniques. There are 7 casting and 3 spinning models, and each one features our exclusive and new Pro Carbon blank, new guides, new reel seats, all designed to reduce weight and create the ultimate fishing tool!

        [divider]Pro Carbon Blank Technology[/divider]
    • Victory Pro Carbon rods start by using the finest 40/36 carbon materials used only in the highest quality performance rods. But this is where competition ends and where we begin to separate ourselves from everyone else. In order to keep weight to an absolute minimum and to increase the breaking strength and durability of the rod series, our engineers have developed a new taping material called “EBS” (Extreme Binding Substrate) that has a 78% increase in tensile strength. Using a hyper pressure process, the new “EBS” material encircles the blank after rolling, and under extreme pressures, forces the Nano resins into every possible cavity and space in the carbon material during the baking process. The result is the elimination of weak spots and fracture points delivering up to 40% more strength without increasing weight and reducing sensitivity.
    • Victory Pro Carbon rod blanks have a carbon content of 77.5% of the total weight vs normal construction averaging just 67%.
    • This 10.5% reduction in resin content allows for a higher carbon fiber content and results in a lighter and stronger blank. Each blank has been artfully designed and tested by Skeet as a technique specific action. No matter if you’re flippin’ heavy jigs in dense cover or finessing a tiny drop shot to finicky fish, you’ll find the perfect action to bring home the Victory!

    • Every Victory Pro Carbon rod has a completely new and redesigned reel seat that optimizes reel placement for balance and features a skeletal design for extreme weight reduction while still providing a solid platform.
    • Casting models all feature our new patent pending “Flipping Trigger” Reel Seat that will improve leverage and control by using a dual trigger design that is a true game changing innovation in casting rod design.
    • Pacbay Minima one piece guide frames reduce weight by 20-30% over ceramic ring guides while increasing sensitivity and rod blank return rate.
    • Redesigned handles reduce weight and improve all day comfort while providing a solid rod hand connection.
    • Custom fighting butt provides exceptional balance and fish fighting comfort.
    • Easy to read line and lure weight designations.

Suggested retail on all 10 new rods is just $159.99 making it the best value in performance rods today!

Wright & McGill Co. introduces new Skeet Reese Telescoping Rods

Currently the average bass rod is over 7′ in length,

but under the 8′ length limit that has been imposed for B.A.S.S. and other tournament circuits. However Skeet Reese, professional angler and Eagle Claw ® Wright & McGill pro-staff team member, has recently played the key role working with B.A.S.S. to change the rules that will now allow rods up to 10′ long to be used in competition starting in 2017. As a result, Eagle Claw ® Wright & McGill is leading the way to introduce six new Eagle Claw® Wright & McGill/Skeet Reese Tournament Series telescopic models. Working hand-in-hand with Skeet Reese, we have designed and tested each of the six models. We have ensured they meet the needs and requirements of the most demanding anglers and will function flawlessly under tournament conditions all the while providing a competitive advantage by design.

    1. Technique specific applications

    b. Big Swimbaits

    c. Deep Diving Crankbaits

    d. Long Distance Finesse

    2. Powerful, patented double trigger casting handles

    3. Length with logic based on technique

    4. Well balanced power and weight reduction

    5. Incredible casting distance

    6. Game changing hook setting power

    7. One-piece telescopic designs for easy boat storage

    8. Classic Skeet Reese yellow and black color scheme

    9. Finished with PacBay Minima guides

Eagle Claw® Wright & McGill and Skeet Reese were determined to bring to anglers an assortment of rods that weren’t just longer, but longer by design and with a purpose. Each length and action was designed to give anglers a competitive advantage in demanding conditions. The use of the Eagle Claw® Wright & McGill proprietary Pro Carbon and S-Curve blank technology has allowed us to build long and powerful yet lightweight rods that would not fatigue an angler during a long day on the water. In addition, in order to provide better balance and rod control with rods reaching the 10′ length, we’ve added engineered counter balance weights in the butt of the rod to reduce realized tip weight and make casting easier. Every rod has gone through critical testing to determine the precise handle length that provides balance, along with incredible

leverage to maximize casting potential. One important component on the casting models is the use of our patented “Double Trigger” reel seats. This patented reel seat used on the longer casting rods in the telescopic series has proven to provide industry leading leverage while casting, cranking, setting hooks and playing big fish.

Trevor explains his theory “I am very competitive but there is a fine line between being to competitive and keeping it fun for your clients. I think a lot of guys with internet and cell phones take the fun out of fishing. I look at it as just being very lucky to be able to spend the day on the water. Have fun and the fish will come” Trevor is also a disciplined guide, he wants to insure that the guest have the best time possible. Trevor’s motto, “never give up until the boat is on the trailer. The last hole can be the one that saves the day to keep your guys coming back. If they land a big King at the end of the day they forget about all that slow time”.

    Reel Victory

(This article is being reprinted with permission from The New Jersey Angler • September 2010)

When 2007 Angler of the Year and 2009 Bassmaster Classic Champion Skeet Reese first teamed-up with Wright & McGill, the outcome was just as one would expect. At ICAST last year, the Colorado-based company, with the help and presence of Reese himself, unveiled the Tessera rods that have since been hailed a big success in the bass arena. Well, a year has passed and once again Reese is in contention for the Angler of the Year Award and once again Wright & McGill had a surprise up their sleeve at ICAST this year. With their Skeet Reese signature “Victory” spinning and casting reels, they are once again proving to anglers that high-performance doesn’t have to come at a high price.

Stan Wright and Drew McGill came together to form Wright & McGill nearly 80 years ago. In that time, the company has grown to become one of the most recognized and well-respected names in the industry. They now offer a full line of products under the Eagle Claw and Wright & McGill brands. With new additions like the Tessera and Victory, it’s no surprise their popularity is booming.

Reese developed the Victory spinning reel to meet his championship standards. Its premium components and impressive list of features are usually associated with reels twice the price. The Victory has an all aluminum body that is super-strong and ultra light, and its 9+1 ball bearing system delivers silky-smooth operation. The spool, spare spool and machined power handle have also been crafted from aluminum. An extreme duty, thick power bail and long-lasting bail spring help ensure that the Victory stays in peak working condition for years to come. The Victory also features infinite anti-reverse, an anti-twist roller and a front drag for maximum control. It’s saltwater resistant and comes complete with a protective storage bag.

The Victory spinning reels are the perfect match in weight, balance and color for the signature Tessera spinning rods. They will be available in four sizes: a 2500 that holds 100-yards of 8-pound test, a 3000 (155 yards of 8-pound test), a 3500 (185 yards of 10-pound test) and a 4000 (190 yards of 12-pound test).

Wright & McGill and Reese also worked closely to create the Victory casting reel. Like the Victory spinning models, the quality, affordably priced reel has been fitted with the components and performance that Reese uses to win titles. The sturdy aluminum frame, low-profile bait caster comes with either a 6.2:1 or 7.0:1 gear ratio. Key features include infinite anti-reverse, centrifugal anti-backlash braking, one-touch removable aluminum spool and a quick-access side panel.

An oversized power handle, coupled with precision cut gears and 10 ball bearings pave the way for smooth, reliable winding power. The Victory casting reel is equipped with a super-duty Teflon drag system and audible click star adjuster to make sure the toughest brutes can be tamed with relative ease. It comes with a neoprene reel case and is backed by a one-year warranty.

The Victory casting reel bears Reese’s signature yellow and black and is the perfect complement to the Tessera casting rods. Both the 6.2:1 and 7.0: gear ratio reels hold 120-yards of 12-pound test and are available in left-hand models.

    Fly Fishing and Baseball?

Did you ever think fly fishing and baseball go together? Well, it does now! On August 16th, the Wright & McGill Co. donated a Boron 5Xe Fly Rod and Dragon Fly Reel to the Colorado Rockies who paid tribute to Bobby Cox, Manager of the Atlanta Braves, who is retiring at the end of this season. This was televised and presented to Mr. Cox before the game and the Wright & McGill logo was up on the jumbo tron. Plus, the Rockies won that night.

This summer I wanted to buy a better rod for fishing shaky head worms. Being a fisherman on a budget, I wanted to keep it under $100. After weeks of looking at rods and reading reviews online, I decided to buy the Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Tessera S-Curve shaky head/senko rod. The rod is 6’11” with a moderate fast taper, which gives great action for fishing that shaky head. These rods sell at most retailers for $89.

I couldn’t be happier with this rod. The sensitivity is great and the rod has a lot of backbone, helping to get a good hook set and land more fish. I can feel strikes with this rod that I’m sure I was missing before. Also, I love the versatility of this rod. Besides fishing shaky heads, I also use it for wacky rigs and Texas rigged soft plastics. I’ve even used it for crappie and bluegill when I ran off and left my ultralight rod at home.

Great performance aside, it has an awesome look to it too. The yellow and black is different, but in my opinion it looks great. After almost a whole season of use at ponds and in the kayak, there are no chips dings or scratches and all of the guides are in good shape. Best of all, the price tag was under $100.

Check out all of Wright & McGill’s rods, I think you will be very pleased. From fishing deep cranks to walking a Zara Spook, the Skeet Reese signature series has a rod for every type of bass fishing. Next up for me is the 7′ Skeet Reese crankbait rod.

    ICAST 2010 Coverage

Skeet Reese introduces his own line of reels under W&M

Introduction: Skeet Reese’s line of bass rods manufactured by Wright and McGill are arguably the best selling series of rods in recent memory. So when word spread of Reese’s departure from Abu Garcia to develop a new series of rods, it didn’t take much to deduct his new reel allegiance.

Skeet remains a popular figure at every show he attends.

That’s right, Skeet is now putting his name and design touches behind not just rods, but reels too manufactured by Wright and McGill, and these new spinning and baitcasting reels will be offered at a similar, low price point of $99.

Introducing his new Victory reel manufactured by Wright & McGill.

These reels are still in prototype stages, but are almost there.

The new Victory series of baitcasting reels will feature 10 ball bearings and be available in 6.2:1 and 7:1 retrieve ratios. Designs are still not quite finalized but the reel is based off of a product already manufactured by Wright and McGill and tested for years in Salt Water fishing.

Remove the sideplate to gain access to the brake control.

The Spinning reel features an oversized bail .

The Victory spinning reels feature an oversized handle for more power and torque, an oversized bail, and a smooth, teflon drag.

    . and an oversized handle.

But what most might find more intriguing are his line of mini kiddie combos in Skeet Reese’s colors!

In support of these brand new reels, Skeet has extended his rod offering with the new Micro HoneyComb graphite sticks. That’s right, we said Micro. Reese is goin Micro with 4 models in all and all priced at $99. Plans are already underway to offer more sticks.

Each combo comes with an instruction DVD.

    And the complimetary hat.

But the real show stopper for Skeet Reese was his new, 2 piece mini spin-cast combo in his prototypical black and yellow motif. Each kids combo comes complete with a rod, reel, cap, casting plug, and a video featuring Skeet instructing the kids how to fish. Expected cost of this outfit? Somewhere in the neighborhood of $30.

    Yet another manufacturer goes micro!

Only Skeet’s line of micro rods feature the same $99 price point despite the fact these rods are built on a higher end blank than the original series.

If Skeet wraps up yet another AOY award, look out, there will be no keeping his rods and reels in stock!

Conclusion: Skeet’s shared with us his primary motivation for brining practically his entire brand to Wright and McGill and that was the goal of being able to produce quality gear at an affordable price point so that.

Introduction: As far as big names in professional fishing go Skeet Reese is definitely among the bass elite, especially here on the West Coast. Over the last season Skeet partnered with W&M (Wright & McGill) to release new series of reels that are designed to pair perfectly with his popular line of rods. We take a look at Skeet’s latest black and yellow reel, the Victory baitcaster.

Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Victory Baitcaster Specifications

Skeet’s new signature reel, the Victory, from Wright and McGill

Impressions: Wait, wasn’t there already a Skeet Reese Edition reel on the market? Abu Garcia fans will remember that not long ago Skeet was fishing Revo reels that featured 11 ball bearings, a 6.4:1 gear ratio and a bright yellow center frame surrounded by black sideplates. This reel was considered by many to be a very refined but expensive offering, retailing for around $259 dollars.

At ICAST 2010 Skeet shows us the new prototype reels

When news first spread that Skeet was no longer with Abu rumors circulated as to which manufacturer he would partner with next. Shimano and Daiwa haven’t brought out signature reels and though they do work with the pros a partnership seemed unlikely, and joining KVD at the Quantum camp also seemed equally as improbable.

In the lab we take a closer look at a mass produced Victory reel

Who would have guessed that W&M would start producing signature reels? But if you think about it this partnership makes perfect sense. Skeet was already enjoying success on the rod side and by bringing both product lines under one roof it was possible to not only make reels that match up with the rods in terms of look and feel but also set a pricing strategy that would also be inline.

    Handles and knobs off.

The one thing we knew we could expect on any new Skeet Reese reel was plenty of his signature black and yellow motif and yet when Skeet showed us the new reels at last year’s ICAST the first thing we commented was just how little yellow there was on both the spinning and baitcast reels. The next thing that we noticed was the absolutely massive handle grips on the reels. Skeet explained that he liked to have plenty of surface area so it was quick and easy to grab the knobs when tournament fishing.

Inside we can see the main brass gearing which houses the drag system

Specification-wise the reels boasted some pretty good specifications, starting with the aluminum alloy frame and hande-side sideplate. The reel features a precision cut brass main gear and 11 stainless steel bearings and a Teflon drag system. The Victory baitcast reels launched with four configurations, a 7.0:1 and 6.2:1 retrieve ratio in both right and left hand retrieve.

The drag consists of a single Teflon disc sandwiched between the brass gear and steel washer
